Eddie Hearn names top five fights he’s promoted

Eddie Hearn is arguably the biggest boxing promoter in the world at the moment and has ditched Sky Sports for DAZN as he dominates the sport with his fighters, including the eagerly anticipated Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua rematch this coming weekend.

He has had the pleasure of working with some of the biggest names including his star fighter Joshua, as well as the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Katie Taylor and KSI.

The famous promoter recently sat down with GQ Sports to name and break down the top five fights he’s promoted in his career so far.

Joshua vs Klitschko

Arguably one of the greatest heavyweight fights of all time, this was certainly a rollercoaster for spectators, with both fighters seeming down and out during the bout.

Hearn included this for the sheer size of the fight, selling Wembley out in a day and seeing his client, Joshua, really stamp his authority on the heavyweight division with his first major win in the sport.

Although the Ukrainian was nearing the end of his illustrious career, he was still on top form, but was ultimately stopped after 11 rounds with the Briton.

Taylor vs Serrano

This was a fight earlier this year for the undisputed lightweight world championship. Taylor dominated the amateur side of the sport before turning pro.

She defended her titles against Amanda Serrano who was a seven division world champion at Madison Square Garden, with Serrano using Jake Paul as her promoter.

Both fighters earned over seven figures on the night in a landmark night for the women’s side of the sport at the Mecca of boxing, with Taylor taking the win on a split decision.

Love the idea of content creators fighting or hate it, there’s no hiding from the magnitude of support these two themselves had, taking boxing to a new audience and getting millions upon millions of eyes on the sport. Although Hearn admitted the press conferences were the cringiest he’d been involved in.

Hearn promoted the rematch after seeing the first fight prove him wrong on the size of the fight, with the second bout being on Hearn’s terms when it comes to turning it into a proper fight with training camps and no head guards etc, making the bout their professional debuts.

KSI took the victory and is now fighting two men in one night later this month after seeing his last fight do millions in terms of pay-per-view sales

Alvarez vs Saunders

Pound-for-pound number one Canelo Alvarez was defending his unified world titles against British hopeful Billy Joe Saunders who held the WBO belt, making the fight a unified bout in the super middleweight division.

Alvarez is huge for selling fights being a global superstar, taking on a smaller name in the British challenger who was the enemy of the American crowd supporting the Mexican.

An injury saw Billy Joe Saunders retire from the fight, requiring surgery on a broken orbital bone, but Hearn did a great job for his client despite the heartbreaking result.

Joshua vs Ruiz

This was Joshua’s USA debut, with Andy Ruiz Jr stepping in at short notice to take him on after Jarrell Miller had to pull out of the fight after failing his drug tests.

He slid into Hearn’s DMs to save the fight and AJ was an overwhelming favourite against the man some didn’t take seriously due to his appearance.

After being down in the third round, Ruiz got up and responded brilliantly, knocking Joshua down a handful of times as he dethroned him of his belts, but AJ was able to regain them after triggering his rematch clause.
