Edge and the WWE returned to UK shores for a first pay-per-view event in 30 years, with the show not disappointing new fans and those who have waited all these years alike.
The Principality Stadium in Cardiff was treated to an absolutely classic night, with home heroes Sheamus and Drew McIntyre up for title shots on the night.
Although the Irishman was unable to usurp the Intercontinental champion and the Scot was downed by Roman Reigns and outside influence, both matches were brutal, giving the fans inside the arena plenty to cheer about.
Britain is renowned for atmosphere inside stadiums, so after the main event, Tyson Fury entered the ring and congratulated Roman Reigns before he left, remaining in there with Drew McIntyre.
The Gypsy King then treated all those to a rendition of American Pie like he does after fights, giving the British crowd chance to laud over their heavyweight hero.
After that, Drew McIntyre led the crowd through Oasis’ hit, Don’t Look Back In Anger, with them all in fine voice as you’d expect.
However, the best example of the crowd being in full voice was when Edge made his way to the ring to team up with Rey Mysterio to take on The Judgement Day in a traditional tag team match-up.
The former Tag Team Champions got the better of Edge’s former allegiance, meaning the Rated R Superstar, who is on his retirement procession, left the UK as a winner on what could well be his final appearance on the island.
Knowing that it could be the last time they’ll see him wrestle, the fans made the most of it. After using a fair few entrance songs in his time, Alter Bridge’s Metalingus has been iconic for Edge, with the ‘You think you know me’ getting fans buzzing before the song belts out.
We’ve all seen by now how spine-tingling it sounded watching the event on the TV or catching the highlights, but now we have fan footage of the entrance.
Although we can’t really see Edge clearly, we can hear the incredible crowd in full voice to sing his entrance music, with the speakers being drowned out by them and all we can hear instead of the actual track, taking the reaction from the crowd to a new level.
It really was an incredible event, with the crowd reaction to Edge’s entrance possibly the highlight on the night, it’ll be a shame that we may not get that ever again.
