Footage has re-emerged of IYO SKY shutting down a racist chant from a WWE fan in 2020, and it’s incredibly iconic.
IYO SKY is now on WWE’s main roster, but prior to that, she was one of NXT’s top stars, performing as Io Shirai.
Shirai is best known as being a former NXT Women’s Champion, delivering classic matches with other top female stars on WWE’s developmental brand.
However, another memorable moment from her run with Triple H’s old brand is the time she had to shut down a disgusting, racist chant from a fan at a show.
As you can see from the footage below, a fan at an NXT event in 2020 told Shirai to “go back to China”, and she wasn’t having any of it.

As she made her entrance to the ring, Shirai heard the chant, and clapped back at the fan in possibly the most brutal way imaginable, before hitting the splits.
“I’m Japanese, b**ch”
Fans, a lot of whom are only finding out about the incident for the first time now, have praised the 32-year-old for the bada** way that she dealt with the situation, as you can see below.

Now as IYO SKY, the former NXT Women’s Champion has revealed that she nearly left WWE this summer before Triple H became Head of Creative.
As was reported at the time, IYO said that she was considering returning to STARDOM in Japan at the expiration of her contract expired this summer, but Triple H was thankfully able to tempt her into staying.
‘The Game’ brought SKY up to the main roster at SummerSlam on July 30, immediately putting her in a high-profile faction alongside the returning Bayley and Dakota Kai, a decision that was met well by fans.
Many fans expected WWE to waste little time in pushing IYO right to the top, with it being widely thought that she’d win the Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament, which concluded last night.
However, to the surprise of many, IYO and Dakota were beaten in the tournament finals by Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah in arguably the most shocking booking call of the Triple H era thus far.
The common feeling is that Raquel and Aliyah may not hold the titles for too long, so perhaps another title match is right around the corner, with SKY and Kai potentially set to win this one.
